Ha, thanks for the info. Having a good laugh forcing myself to listen to these two shows. I saw most of the East Coast 1985 shows and most would agree these were fine tours, but Jerry just stinks on most of these two.
I wouldn't say that Jerry had to be in form to make a show good. In the long run, he probably flubbed up more than the others. In later years, Phil and Bob really rose to the occasion to compensate for his reduced contribution.
I recall the 04/06/78 Tampa, where Jerry was in a visibly foul mood the entire show, snarling at the other band members and clearly sulking and acting out the entire show (Jerry could be very petulant). He seemed to be going out of his way to be musically uncooperative and even dismissive towards the audience - most Florida non-Deadheads who prob assumed he was just another spoiled rock star and lapped it all up.
But it was a very solid show, nonetheless. Garcia did say in the Grateful Dead Movie his mood was irrelevant to the level of his playing...
